ÁMEZING INGREDIENTS
I started my Instagram by posting toxic ingredients one might find in skincare, ingredients I hated… Now we’re flipping that script and talking about ingredients we love/are intrigued by! Woohoo!
Mandelic Acid: This acid is one of my favorites and it’s getting more attention than ever, with good reason! This is a gentle AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that is wonderful for melanated skin types. It’s great for gradually clearing acne and treating hyperpigmentation. Just a few months ago, fellow esthetician Sofie Pavitt launched a gentle yet effective Mandelic Clearing Serum. And Allies of Skin makes the wonderful Mandelic Pigment Corrector. You can expect clear and luminous results! Check both of those products out on ShopMyShelf.
Centella Asiatica Extract [aka CICA]: For those with inflammatory conditions (rosacea, eczema, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), this is a very important ingredient to get to know. You’ll mostly find it in Korean skincare brands like Purito, Beauty of Joeson, IUNIK, and SKIN1004. I’ve tried them all and love every single one of them. As well as the iconic Dr. Jart Cicapair product line. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We are going to see this ingredient more and more from U.S. companies too. Browse some CICA stuff on my ShopMyShelf.
ÁMEZING HALLOWEEN
Spooky season people! I didn’t forget about you. Since launching the anti-pollutant masque with Aliangé a couple of years ago, the best surprise has been people using the nourishing and balancing masque as part of their HALLOWEEN COSTUMES! Who knew? It just so happens to be a gorgeous light, sage green color…. Some favorite applications I’ve seen are Frankenstein and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Skip the drying paints and stripping sprays and layer on this protective masque instead! I’m hoping I get to see some new costumes with the masque this year!
Please tag me at either @amez_pro or @amez_marketplace and we’ll share your costumes! It’s also OFRENDA season, a very special and intentional time of year for the Latin Diaspora. I’d love to see your alters! Tag me in your photos if you want me to share.
PLEASE HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN!
HOW TO FEEL ÁMEZING AFTER PARTYING
A quick post-Halloween guide to help your skin feel its best!
Drink electrolytes to internally hydrate! I’m partial to LMNT because they are less sweet and a bit more neutral-tasting! Put some in your water as soon as you get home or right when you get up the next morning.
Double Cleanse to remove makeup before bed. An oil cleanser or cleansing balm is the best way to do this. Remember to warm the product up in your hands first and apply it on dry skin. Use it to give yourself a mini facial massage and then rinse with tepid water (this makes the removal so much easier, trust me!) Finish removing the oil with a cotton pad, shammy, or muslin cloth, and then follow with a second cleanse! I recommend a gentle cream or gel cleanser!
Micellar water is great for removing makeup/face paint/glitter. I don’t wear complexion makeup very often, so I don’t always keep this in stock, but I love it when I do because it makes removing eye makeup so easy. It’s also a great step in a double-cleanse ritual. The Bioderma is a classic for a reason. Another great option is the Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water. Isn’t the name alone sexy?
Masque the next day. Or even before bed, if you have the energy! I suggest starting with a detoxifying masque and then following it up with a hydrating masque. You can browse some of my favorites on ShopMyShelf here.
Get under some LED light. Nothing like a dose of RED or BLUE light (but really any of the light settings are beneficial!) This provides easy, cellular healing and recovery. If you don’t have a home device but are thinking about purchasing, wait until next month to catch them at a discount during Black Friday sales. Omnilux and Solawave come to mind. My longtime favorite is by a smaller Dutch company called Aduro. You can browse or purchase here!
ÁMEZING SKIN FOR AUTUMN
Tips for keeping your skin happy as we transition seasons!
Use an oil cleanser. The Pai Cleansing Oil has always been my favorite. It’s a simple, single-ingredient rosehip oil cleanser. It’s always my number one rec for the sensi babies, but it works for all.
Use a denser moisturizer and more hydrating products. Think more barrier protection for the rest of the year! Avene Cicalfate is a staple you should all have in your medicine cabinet. The Intense Replenishing Serum by Dr. Loretta is beautiful for all skin types. You can feel it absorbing instantly! It feels like a hug of moisture. A new obsession! The Dermide Cica Barrier Sleeping Pack by Purito is an overnight treat loaded with Cica and ceramide for ultimate, restorative moisture. I love an overnight treatment. This is the last step of your routine. When you're feeling dry or sensitive, you can apply a hearty two layers of this! YUMMY!
